Closing out the Capital Campaign
In February 2021 when The Extension started to take on the Building Solutions Capital Campaign, the goal was to raise 5.8 million dollars. Through the hard work of so many individuals, and even more grace and generosity from donors, we were able to reach this goal in only 11 months.
But just when we thought that we could see the light at the end of the tunnel, we learned that another million dollars would be needed to complete the building. Like the rest of the country, we felt the weight of inflation and today it costs more to complete this project than last year. For many, this would be extremely discouraging news, but for The Extension team, we knew this meant there would be more opportunities for us to connect with and bring together our community. So, we put our heads back down and got to work to meet the finish line that had been pushed away.
You might expect people to be confused as to why more money was necessary was complete the capital campaign or be resistant to continue their support after they have already given a generous gift. By the grace of God, this was far from the case. We were met with nothing but altruism and kindness from donors, and our expectations have been blown away.
In a recent conversation of board members and executive staff, Executive Director Tyler Driver said that “we’re taking the best of us into the new building.” Gene Cork, a board member and CEO of Cork Howard Construction, who is building our new campus, added, “we have a high level of care, but we will make sure that we are never headed towards an institutional model.” And Skip Harper, a past board chair, reminded everyone of our mission, “we need to keep being the loving, caring, Christ-based organization that we’ve always been.”
Today, we have 97% of the 6.8 million raised. This means there is only $194,300 left to meet our Building Solutions goal. The end is in sight, and we are all so excited to see the progress of the new building going on. Would you consider helping us reach the finish line?
