GSU Economic Impact Study

In May 2026, the Center for Business Analytics and Economic Research (CBAER) at Georgia Southern University (GSU) conducted a post-transition survey of Extension clients, finding that they contribute $50 million to Cobb County and Metro Atlanta, $30 million to the regional economy, and $21 million in labor income annually.

In Fiscal Year 2026, The Extension operated on a budget of $5.5 million. This study provides an incredible opportunity to see the measurable impact of the work we do every day, as well as the ripple effect of investing in recovery, creating an annual impact 9 times larger than our operating expenses.

These numbers represent so much more than an economic impact. They represent lives being rebuilt, opportunities being created, and individuals reclaiming their independence and contributing to our communities.
