Meet the Development Team!
We all know how much growth is going on at The Extension. The new Men’s campus will give us the ability to double our capacity and extend the work of solving homelessness and addiction. To balance the outward growth and meet all our new needs, The Extension is also growing internally with several new staff members.
In early June, Betsy Mathews came on as the new Director of Development, and later that month, Mallory Mason joined as the Development and Marketing Coordinator. Together, they make up the Development Team and are armed with big plans to further the mission of The Extension.
Just so you can get to know them better, Betsy and Mallory answered some questions:
What do you do for The Extension?
Betsy: My Title is Director of Development, but what I really do? Raise the funds, and create partnerships with people and companies to make sure the Extension can serve as many clients as possible. The pressure is a privilege, as I get to see lives changed because of someone’s gift.
Mallory: I am the Development and Marketing Coordinator. I will be working closely with volunteers, supporting Betsy, managing our donor database, creating content for social media, and writing blog posts and newsletters 😉
What is your favorite part of working here so far?
Betsy: My coworkers embody the mission of The Extension, and they inspire me to work harder every day.
Mallory: I love working with such passionate people. It’s clear everyone here cares deeply about the work that is being done to change people’s lives.
What is your favorite book and why?
Betsy: So many, too many, to pick just one. I am a huge fan of Pat Conroy, John Irving. For professional reads – Simon Sinek and Seth Godin keep me ‘on my game’ at work.
Mallory: My all time favorite book is Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard. I’m a transcendentalist at heart, I love nature and I’m a feminist, and this is a great book about how to see the Divine in nature, and how we are all connected. And I love it more than Walden and Thoreau because its modern and written by a woman.
Describe your ideal Saturday.
Betsy: Usually weekends you can find me at the lake with friends. Allatoona salt-free!
Mallory: It definitely starts with strolling around a farmer’s market and getting some coffee and fresh produce. Then I imagine I would go white water rafting or hiking with some friends, and close out the day by going to a local concert. There also be some really good food involved.
If you could have a dinner party with 5 celebrities or historical figures, who would they be?
Betsy: As a former design student, I’d love to meet Frank Lloyd Wright, and Thomas Jefferson. The history buff in me says Dwight Eisenhower. And as a music lover my top two would be George Winston and Freddie Mercury. Pretty non-sequitur, huh?
Mallory: For me it would be Maggie Rogers, John Denver, Bell Hooks, James Baldwin, and Miles Davis. And there would also be a jam circle after dinner.
